There are games that cannot be explained in words — you just need to run them with your friends. Party Animals is one of them. Imagine: you are a stuffed kitten, you have a baseball bat in your hands, three friends nearby, and all this is happening on the roof of a speeding train in a snowstorm. Five minutes later, you all fall into the abyss, laugh together and immediately press “Revenge”. This is Party Animals, a physical brawler in which losing can be funnier than winning.

What is Party Animals and how does it differ from Gang Beasts

Party Animals is a multiplayer game from the Chinese studio Recreate Games, released on PC and Xbox in September 2023, and in January 2025 it reached PlayStation 5. The genre is a physical brawler for a party, that is, a cross between Gang Beasts and Totally Accurate Battle Simulator.

The main difference from competitors is the visual presentation. Instead of the shapeless humanoid dummies from Gang Beasts, there are cute stuffed animals here: puppies, kittens, ducklings, sharks, dinosaurs and even unicorns. The physics of movement is just as “drunk” — the characters fall over, tumble, lose their balance with each blow. But the visual style makes what is happening even more absurd and, oddly enough, even more ridiculous.

Key differences between Party Animals and Gang Beasts:

• More detailed graphics and animations (Unity engine, soft wool rendering)
• The largest number of maps is 23 versus ~12 for Gang Beasts at the time of release
• Team play modes and sports options (hockey, American football)
• Online multiplayer for up to 8 players instead of 4 in the local Gang Beasts
• Cosmetic system with codes, store, and Twitch drops

Gameplay of Party Animals: Chaos physics as the main pleasure mechanism

The basic mechanics are deceptively simple: hit, grab, throw, survive. But the way it’s implemented through the physics engine turns every match into an unpredictable performance. The character is controlled with deliberate instability — a sharp blow can spin you yourself, a jump at the right moment turns into a somersault across the arena, and an attempt to lift an opponent often ends with you falling off the edge yourself.

There are a lot of weapons, and they all work on physics: bits fly off when they hit the surface, missiles fly in an indirect line, ice cannons freeze the enemy in ridiculous poses. A temporarily “knocked out” opponent can be picked up and thrown into the abyss — but while you’re carrying him, you risk walking away with him.

Game modes in Party Animals

The three official modes are complemented by a variety of maps themselves. Each arena is a separate scenario with a unique event: a submarine slowly sinks under water, a bridge collapses into pieces, a truck accelerates and brakes sharply. The stealth plane level, which freezes at low altitude, is especially good — the arena literally shrinks from the ice, forcing players to crowd into the center.

On which platforms was Party Animals released and is there a crossplay

One of the most frequent questions is whether Party Animals is available on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Party Animals was released on PC (Steam) and Xbox (One/Series X|S) on September 20, 2023, and the PlayStation 5 version was released on January 23, 2025. PS4 and Nintendo Switch are not officially supported at the moment.

Is there a crossplay in Party Animals?

Party Animals supports crossplay between PC (Steam), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S — Steam players can easily play with Xbox console owners. As for the PS5: at the time of writing, there is no official information about crossplay between PlayStation 5 and other platforms.

An important caveat: cross-platform progress in the game is not supported — the profile and achievements on one platform are not transferred to another. If you started pumping the level on PC, it will be from scratch on Xbox.

Party Animals Codes in 2025-2026: how to get free skins

One of the popular themes around the game is Party Animals codes for free cosmetics. The system works simply: you enter the code in the store, get a skin or in-game currency.

To activate the code: go to the item store in the main menu (lower left corner) → click on the ticket icon at the top of the window with the inscription Redeem → enter the code.

Party Animals working codes (valid for 2026)

• VICKSY — Vicksy skin (newest)
• Beardbox — Kiko skin
• Joshandkato — Kato skin
• LIRIK — three skins for a cat
• S7 — Fluffy skin

The codes are updated regularly — some appear through streamers and affiliate campaigns, some during the holidays. Twitch drops work separately: you need to link your Party Animals account to Twitch and watch game streams during active events.

Maps and levels: diversity as the main advantage

23 cards is an impressive figure for the genre. But what’s more important is not the number, but how much each of them changes the feeling of the game. The developers from Recreate Games did not follow the path of “one arena, one idea”, but added dynamic events that fundamentally change tactics during the match.

Some of the most memorable levels:

• Submarine — the level gradually sinks, the playing field decreases to a tiny spot on the surface
• Collapsing bridge — sections fall off randomly, creating constant tension
• Wind tunnel with barricades — obstacles descend from above, forcing you to constantly move
• American football and hockey — team modes with a ball/puck, where physics makes the game absolutely chaotic

Some cards work better than others. The socker level feels drawn out due to the slow pace and physics, but the arcade mini-game inside a regular fight is an unexpectedly funny and successful find.

Honest criticism: what’s annoying about Party Animals

Party Animals is not a perfect game, and it would be unfair to pretend that there are no problems.

The matches are dragging on. When you play with four teams of two, rounds can take a very long time, especially if no one team dominates. The “first to three wins” format often leads to a situation where all four teams win two rounds each before the final deciding set. For the party genre, where pace is everything, this is a significant disadvantage.

Offline mode problems. Some of the players in the Steam reviews are unhappy with the lack of a full-fledged offline mode – this is especially felt when playing a local game, where you have to wait in line to connect even without going online.

Microtransactions with the paid model. The cosmetics store is present, despite the fact that the game is distributed as a paid purchase on most platforms. Skins do not affect gameplay, but the very fact of playing a paid game raises questions for many. During the game, you can earn enough in—game currency to buy several basic items, but the sediment remains.

There is no cross-platform progress. If you played on Xbox through the Game Pass, and then bought the PS5 version, you’re starting from scratch. For a game that focuses on taking a long time to collect cosmetics, this is unpleasant.

Party Animals and Game Pass: the best way to try

On Xbox, the game is included in the Game Pass, and a few days after the launch, the community was very active. The Game Pass is the best way to evaluate Party Animals without risk. If the format fits, it’s easier to buy separately later or continue the subscription. A Steam version is available for PC players without a subscription at a standard price.

Party Animals vs Gang Beasts: what to choose in 2026

Comparisons are inevitable because the genre is the same, the audience is the same, and the question “which is better” is constantly being asked.

Mechanically, they are very close. Gang Beasts wins over fans of the “original” and is available on Switch, which is critical for a portable game in the company. Party Animals responds with a more modern cosmetic system, more maps, and a more stable online experience. For beginners in the Party Animals genre, it is easier to enter because of the Game Pass.

System requirements of Party Animals on PC: will it work on your hardware

The good news is that the game does not require powerful hardware. Party Animals is developed on the Unity engine, and its requirements are very democratic, even by the standards of 2023. The physical load falls primarily on the processor, not on the graphics card, so even with a budget build, the game will start without problems.

Is it worth buying Party Animals in 2026

The direct answer is yes, if you have at least three or four people willing to play together. Alone or with random people without voice chat, Party Animals loses about 80% of its charm — this is a game about laughing together, not about personal skill.

If you have an Xbox or you are subscribed to a Game Pass, there is nothing to think about at all, the game is already waiting for you. A full-fledged port has been available for the PS5 since January 2025. The PC version on Steam is stable, although the audience is slightly smaller than on consoles.

Party Animals is a fun, chaotic online brawler. The maps are diverse and contain interesting solutions, the physics of the action game provides laughter in both victory and defeat. Matches can get long sometimes, but as a game for regular hour—long sessions with friends, it hits the nail on the head.

How to play Party Animals for free on Steam via VpeSports

If you’ve ever seen a teddy cat throwing a duck over the side of a platform with an absolutely serious look, you already understand why Party Animals captures from the very first minutes. It’s not just fights, it’s a whole theater of the absurd, where the physics engine creates things that the screenwriters would never have intentionally invented.

Every match here is born anew. You can build tactics, negotiate with allies, build combos — and still lose, because your character accidentally slipped and flew off into the abyss with a victorious look. It’s this unpredictability that makes the game so lively.
