English broadcasts also improved year over year

Esports Charts reported that English-language broadcasts averaged 11.8% more viewers on opening day than during the first day of Champions 2025. Average audience and peak audience are separate measures: the first reflects sustained viewing over time, while the second captures the highest concurrent moment.

The increase provides an early comparison under similar tournament branding, but it is not yet a forecast for the full event. Regional participation changes across match days, weekend schedules affect availability, and later elimination matches typically create different viewing behavior from opening series.

The provider also cautioned that it was too early to judge language trends after only two matches. Fans often arrive when teams from their region play, so the language mix can shift as the group schedule moves through Pacific, China, EMEA and Americas representatives.

Champions Shanghai features 16 teams competing for a $2.25 million prize pool. Groups run before an eight-team double-elimination playoff, giving the event several natural opportunities to surpass the opening peak. High-profile qualification matches and the October 18 grand final are likely to have different audience conditions, but future numbers are not guaranteed.

The tracked figure also needs a platform boundary. Esports viewership databases measure the services they can reliably monitor and may exclude some regional platforms or unavailable data. The 605,800 figure should therefore remain attached to the provider’s tracked broadcasts rather than being expanded into an unsupported worldwide total.

This limitation is especially relevant for an event hosted in China. Without a verified cross-platform methodology, adding unofficial Chinese-platform counters to the measured peak would mix incompatible statistics. The cited report provides a consistent opening-day comparison and should be used on those terms.

A strong start is a benchmark, not a verdict

Passing the previous year’s first-day peak gives Champions Shanghai a positive initial benchmark. The number of channels and the English average both support the conclusion that attention was broad on September 24. They do not establish that every remaining day will grow.

Upcoming matches will introduce different teams, time zones and stakes. Winners matches can secure playoff places, elimination matches remove teams, and the final weekend concentrates attention on fewer series. Comparing like-for-like stages will be more useful than treating every daily peak as a direct continuation of opening day.

For now, the verified conclusion is narrow and meaningful: more than 605,800 concurrent viewers watched at the opening-day high point on tracked platforms, Paper Rex versus Liquid led the match ranking, and more than 280 channels carried coverage. The final tournament story remains open.

Champions Shanghai began above the prior year’s opening-day peak, reaching more than 605,800 concurrent viewers across tracked broadcasts. Paper Rex versus Team Liquid drew the day’s largest audience, while channel count rose beyond 280 and English averages increased 11.8%. Those figures set an early benchmark rather than a final event total.

Champions Shanghai exceeded 605,800 peak viewers on opening day, with Paper Rex versus Team Liquid leading more than 280 tracked channels.

Champions Shanghai exceeded 605,800 peak viewers on opening day, with Paper Rex versus Team Liquid leading more than 280 tracked channels.
[7

post-6112","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news

!["Conceptual]("https://valorant.casecs2.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/champions-opening-viewership-20260926-3.jpg")
